Most laundry products contain ingredients that are linked to skin irritation, respiratory problems and allergies. They are also very harmful to the environment.
Laundry powders have traditionally used phosphates to soften the water, but many US states have now banned phosphates due to their impact on the environment. In their place companies have opted for zeolites. However, according to Greenpeace zeolites are just as damaging to the environment and in order to activate zeolites successfully, manufacturers need to add a myriad of other chemicals to the laundry product.
Aside from the big picture of the environment, these ingredients are also common causes of sludge build up in home pipe works.
Unfortunately, you can't be certain what is in your laundry products because manufacturers are not required to put their ingredients on the packaging (and trust me, even when contacting them to find out - it can be very challenging!... makes you wonder?!)
The Abode Laundry products use a combination of sand and soda ash to produce a superior option for your laundry and for the environment (reverts back to sand in the environment!). And the ingredients are right there on the packaging - nothing to hide!
The Abode Laundry Powder is available in Natural or Sensitive. Both are grey water safe and biodegradable. They can be used in either front or top loaders, hot or cold water, and you only need a small amount to get optimum results.
