Basic Feng Shui

Having a complete audit of your home based on the Feng Shui principals is quite involved, and as a result can reap some amazing results. However, there are some basic things you can do around yourself to help make your life easier and healthier.

  • Remove any rubbish, junk and clutter from around your home regularly. Eliminate bad smells inside and out.  Clutter in particular areas of your home can cause blockages in particular areas of your life.
  • Open windows as often as possible to circulate fresh air. For the purposes of insulation, many modern buildings are built almost 'air-tight' and the same air is recycled over and over. This can result in a number of illnesses. Bringing in fresh air helps to kill germs and eliminate odours.
  • BE RUTHLESS in throwing out any unwanted goods. Holding onto unwanted/unused goods indicates an inability to let go of the past and therefore prevents new opportunities from presenting themselves.
  • Fix structural problems around the house (eg: broken window screens, cracked walls, damaged spouting, roof tiles etc). Rundown areas of your house could be causing a decline in your health.
  • Clean out cupboards! Go through your pantry and throw out expired food. Turf out kitchenware that you don't use. Hand on clothes that you haven't worn for 12 months (or even less!).
  • Don't sleep near electrical equipment - eg: digital clock radios, meter boxes, electric blankets, lamps, computers, TVs and mobile phones. This equipment all emits EMFS which can be very dangerous for your health.
  • Minimise your cleaning supplies. Avoid as many chemical based cleaning goods as possible. A variety of good quality Microfibre clothes, plus a few chemical free cleaning alternatives (eg vinegar, bi-carb soda, borax etc) is the healthiest, safest way to clean your home.
  • Healthy plants/fresh flowers attract good energy and lift your spirits and also have the ability to clean polluted air. But be sure to throw out cut flowers that have started to wilt.
  • Keeping a beautiful garden will encourage new opportunities to come into your life. Like your house, keep it free from clutter.
  • Repair leaky taps - this represents a gradual loss of income (and wastes precious water!)
  • Regularly clean floor surfaces (use a good quality vacuume with a hepa filter and turbo head to remove small particulates trapped in your carpets and furnishings). Get rid of cobwebs from corners. Keep windows clean to provide vision in your life.
  • Wash curtains and rugs regularly by hanging them outside on warm, windy days to allow fresh air to shift many of the particulates that get trapped and breed within them.
  • Avoid wearing shoes inside the home. It has been found that dust levels inside the home can be reduced by up to 50% if shoes are removed and mats used at the entrances.
