Colour my world

Are you in the process of building, renovating or redecorating? Thinking you might like to splash some colour around the home or office? Before making your selection based on the prettiest paint in the palette, it might be worth considering the emotional impact that colour will have on the room.

Red instils energy, drive and power. However, it can also activate feelings of anger and violence.  Because it is such a striking colour, it should be used with caution. Rather than overpowering a room with a red wall, consider red furnishings such as vases, prints, cushions and throw rugs. Avoid the use of red in children's room as it can cause hyperactivity.

Pink represents compassion and love. It has the potential to relieve depression and loneliness. It is appropriate to use pink in a children's bedroom to help with self esteem.

Orange is an uplifting colour that can assist in times of change, shock, trauma or depression. It is also suitable for children's rooms to help them overcome shyness and to nurture creativity.

Yellow enhances concentration and memory. Therefore it is ideal for the study or home office.

Green creates a sense of harmony, stability and growth. It enhances detoxification and cleansing. It functions well in a living room to encourage socialising (bottle green), or relaxation in a bathroom (emerald or pale green).

Blue is the colour for communication (in particular one on one). It works well in teenagers’ bedrooms with red to enhance musical talents while lavender blue with white in a dining or living area will encourage openness and friendly conversation.

I totally agree that colors had an impact on the emotions. There are many sectors now a days that chooses paint colors base on the color meaning, symbolism and psychology.
One example of this is the color PINK which was used in prison cell to effectively reduce erratic behavior.
And I personally advised to take note of this when choosing pain colors.
